Terms of Service
The Short Version
- You own everything you create in Cairn. Your models, your data.
- AI output requires your review. The ChangeSet approval step exists for a reason.
- Don't abuse the service or try to extract system prompts to build a competitor.
- Cairn is provided as-is. It's a solo-developer product in active development.
Your Account
You need an account to use the workbench. Use a valid email. One person, one account. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms or generate disproportionate costs through automated usage.
Service Tiers
Cairn offers multiple tiers with different limits. Pricing and allowances are on the pricing page. We may adjust tiers with 30 days notice. If you downgrade, existing data stays accessible in read-only mode.
Your Data and Intellectual Property
You own your work. All system models, requirements, interfaces, designs, and project content you create belong to you. Cairn claims no ownership.
You can leave at any time. Full project export (.cairn.zip) includes your complete model, assets, and history.
Limited permission: You grant Cairn permission to store, process, and transmit your data solely to provide the service. We do not use your content to train AI models.
AI-Generated Content
AI output is a proposal, not a decision. Every change goes through ChangeSet review. You accept or reject it. This exists because AI makes mistakes, and in systems engineering, errors have physical consequences.
AI output is not guaranteed to be correct, complete, safe, or fit for any purpose. Do not rely on it without independent engineering review. Cairn is a design exploration tool, not a substitute for professional judgment or regulatory compliance.
Acceptable Use
Use Cairn for legitimate systems engineering. Don't reverse-engineer or extract system prompts to build a competitor. Don't automate bulk AI calls to circumvent limits. Don't attempt to access other users' data.
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)
Your API keys stay in your browser. Cairn's servers never see them. You're responsible for your own API costs and compliance with provider terms.
Cloud Sync
Optional and off by default. When enabled, data is stored in Supabase (US) and protected by row-level security. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Availability
Cairn is provided as best-effort with no uptime SLA. If we discontinue the service, we'll provide 30 days notice and ensure you can export your data.
Limitation of Liability
Cairn is provided "as is" without warranties. It is not a certified engineering tool. Do not use it as the sole basis for safety-critical decisions. Total liability is limited to the amount paid in the preceding 12 months, or $100, whichever is greater.
Changes
Material changes to these terms will be communicated via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States.
